The dearest dream of Sara Johnson (Izabella Miko), a fragile white girl from a small town, was to attend Juilliard’s dance school in New York and become a famous ballerina. But the fate decreed otherwise and Sara had to abandon her dream. She moved in with her estranged father Roy (Terry Kinney) to Chicago ghetto and began attending high school where the overwhelming majority of students were African-American. However, she became fast friends with nice guy Derek Reynolds (Sean Patrick Thomas) and his beautiful sister Chenille (Kerry Washington) who invited her to a hip-hop dance club. While on the dance floor, Sara found that her dancing was the source of laughter, and then Derek offered to teach her the art of hip-hop dance. Prime is a sophisticated, character comedy set in New York City about Rafi, a recently divorced 37-year-old career woman from Manhattan and what happens when Dave, a talented 23-year-old painter from the upper West Side of Manhattan falls in love with her. The film looks at love from everyone’s point-of-view friends, relatives and in this case, Rafi’s therapist Lisa, and follows all who comes apart and some who pull it together, when two people fall in love.
