Jack (Daniel Day-Lewis) lives on the site of his abandoned island commune with his 16-year-old daughter Rose (Camilla Belle). Jack has sheltered Rose from the influences of the outside world, but now Rose’s emerging womanhood poses troubling questions about the days ahead. A man who has lived a life motivated by environmentalism and other altruistic causes, Jack now rages at those who do not share his concerns, like developer Marty Rance (Beau Bridges), who is building a housing tract on the edge of his property. When Jack invites his girlfriend Kathleen (Catherine Keener) and her sons Rodney (Ryan McDonald) and Thaddius (Paul Dano) to live with them, Rose feels betrayed and the situation quickly becomes precarious. Rose acts out wildly, creating chaos. As everything flies out of control, Jack finds himself trapped in an impossible place and is forced to take action.

Robert Dean è un giovane e promettente avvocato, che si trova coinvolto in un assurdo gioco di spie, perché un vecchio amico di scuola gli infila fra i regali di Natale un dischetto contenente le immagini di un omicidio commesso da un dirigente ambizioso e senza scrupoli della National Security Agency (potente organismo governativo responsabile delle operazioni spionistiche più complesse). La vita del protagonista è sconvolta e continuamente in pericolo. Un ex agente della NSA, interverrà in aiuto del giovane. Dopo essere sfuggiti numerose volte alla morte, i due si salveranno in un finale pieno di suspense e…con un po’ di furbizia! Grande cast e grande azione per un film solido e ben girato.

Along the way, they learn the rules of the road from a hitchhiking George Carlin, ride with a group of gorgeous jewel thieves, and incur the wrath of a hapless wildlife marshal for liberating an orangutan named Suzanne. The quest takes them from New Jersey to Hollywood where a showdown involving the police, the jewel thieves, and the Bluntman and Chronic filmmakers will decide the fate of Suzanne, Jay, Silent Bob, and their good names.
