When a routine speeding incident turns into a full-blown highway “situation,” Madea (Tyler Perry) mouths off to a cop and lands herself in jail, where she’s suddenly trapped behind bars with more motherly instinct than she knows what to do with. The team of four, which included a female student and a very young James Farmer, is tested in a crucible heated by Jim Crow, sexism, a lynch mob, an arrest and near riot, a love affair, jealousy, and a national radio audience.
